For When you’re Feeling Wired
There’s a common thought in the service and wellness industry – your clients will bring you exactly what you need to work on.
Inside NDY and 1:1 coaching, I teach about nervous system rewiring… intellectually I understand it, but I have thankfully never needed too much of it.
Until June. Weeks of sickness, barely able to leave the house, sleeping on V’s floor, work routine, exercise routine, all thrown off, and I was so excited for the illness to clear.
And then it did… and I felt terrible.
My eating was off, my digestion was off, and I was exhausted even after 9 hours of sleep.
I felt like I was in survival mode, constantly distracted, unable to focus, other than to do the bare minimum.
What was it?
My nervous system. My mind was ready, but my body was not. After weeks on and off at vibrating at the highest frequency, I couldn’t come down.
And of course, I wanted to come down as quickly as possible, which also went against what my body needed.
So I sat with it. I talked to clever coach friends. And I slowly started.
Simple Ways to Regulate Your Nervous System
NSDR (Huberman’s YouTube ones) in the middle of every day slowed my mind down and helped me get through the day
Breathwork – after years of resisting breathwork, I finally started using it whenever I felt off even for a few minutes
Zen Colouring – yes I do this on my iPad and yes I love it
Non-judgement – the hardest and most effective one. Not rushing myself through feeling off, not wondering what was wrong with me, just accepting my poor old nervous system as it was… coming out of fight or flight and returning to rest and digest.
In a non-stop world, we barely ever rest other than sleeping (and even then it’s often disrupted). Unfortunately Netflix isn’t even rest.
Rest is checking in with your body in the day, bringing your breath and anxiety down to its slowest and lowest level, and finally taking a break.
